Our Story

Founded to be a little bit different from other companies
Many of our clothing items are one-of-a-kind - unique fabric, unique look - although many use the same underlying pattern. Thus if you order a Tibetan jacket, or ChiChi jacket or Swing Coat - what you'll receive is unique, your own; it won't look EXACTLY like the one in the photo. If what you want is in the category Made to order, it will be mailed to you within the week. If it says it will need to be made - we will communicate with you and talk color and size, whether you like bold or subtle.....details that are your unique preferences. We'll mail you photos of possible fabric and you'll pick. You won't be disappointed. We'll also give you a timeline for completion and delivery. Just so you'll feel sure: check our Happy Customer statements.

Original designs with respect for the weaver's intent

Our joy in the making of these clothing items is the love of designing and sewing, the respect for the original materials as the weaver created them. "For me, the fabric tells me what to make of it, and I feel blessed to have found a tailor who sees how to make this a reality." (Miranda.)

"The price for a custom-made lined jacket made of handwoven fabric of my choice was so amazingly inexpensive that I had a gorgeous dusty rose coat made while we were at it. It was wonderful to be able to give my measurements and say, "I'd like it a little loose in the shoulders. I'd like the sleeves a little long" and see that translated into a jacket and coat unique in all the world and a perfect fit for me. I highly recommend Atitlan/TLC Clothing Designs. Not only do you get beautiful one-of-a-kind clothing super-affordably, your purchase also supports local tailors and seamstresses and also includes a substantial donation to fund school scholarships for children participating in Mira's children's art & nutrition project, Creando Mi Futuro.— Gayla G., customer
About Us

About Us

(Miranda) I moved to Guatemala after retirement and in San Pedro la Laguna was blessed to meet Javier Navichoc, the tailor who could take my designs, make perfectly-finished examples and the patterns we needed to replicate them. We have be working together since 2011. Each year I have gone to California and a few other states to do benefit events for my Guatemalan children's art & nutrition project Creando Mi Futuro (www.creatingmyfuture.org) - taking bags of our creations to show and sell. During this time several stores - in Antigua, Guatemala, Philadelphia Pa, and Chico CA - have featured some of our clothing. But the restrictions of COVID have brought a temporary halt to all this. Thus the 15% that goes to fund our school scholarships for the Creando childen (the poorest in our pueblo) severely diminished. This website is an attempt to reach a wider audience of special people who love Guatemalan fabric and the "ethnic look", and hopeful augment our scholarship fund once again. In Guatemala, primary school is free except for school supplies, but high school costs a lot. Parents of scant resources, like ours, can't afford to send their children past sixth grade. About 50% of adults in San Pedro had to quit in 6th grade; many of our project parents have little or no education. 15% of our sales price goes to support these children's high school expenses.
