All fabric is Guatemalan hand-woven cotton recycled from traditional women's skirt fabric, with occasional use of elements of the traditional blouse or embroidered guipil. Each fabric is traditional to a different pueblo in Guatemala, although in this "day-and-age" women will wear the fabric of other pueblos. Now, of course, more modern machine-loomed fabrics imitative of the original designs are available, and sometimes favored by the women. Thus they will sell their old cortes, or skirts, to get something newer, brighter, and more modern. We reap the reward of this cultural shift. To me, the older fabrics are the most beautiful.
